Knowledge is not just power—it is permission to become more.

For many women re-entering society, education was interrupted by life circumstances, survival, or systems that did not offer stability or support. The Education & GED Preparation program was created to meet women where they are—without judgment—and provide a structured, supportive pathway toward academic confidence, credential attainment, and future opportunity. This program serves women who may not have earned a high school diploma and are ready to take the next step toward personal and economic stability. Educational readiness is approached as a foundation for growth, not a reflection of worth or ability.

Upon entry into the program, each participant is supported by a Women in Re-entry (WIR) Case Manager, who coordinates academic intake and TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education) testing. The assessment helps identify current skill levels and guides individualized GED preparation, ensuring instruction is appropriate, achievable, and aligned with each woman’s goals. Through personalized support, GED-focused instruction, and clear next-step planning, this program empowers women to rebuild confidence, strengthen skills, and move forward with purpose—one step at a time.

What We
Offer

The Education & GED Preparation program provides structured academic instruction for individuals who have not earned a high school diploma and require educational readiness prior to workforce training or employment placement. This program focuses exclusively on GED attainment, academic assessment, and clearly defined next steps, ensuring participants do not remain stalled in education without a pathway forward.

Educational readiness is treated as a gateway requirement, not a stand-alone service. Participants enter this program with the understanding that GED completion is directly connected to improved employability, access to training credentials, and long-term economic stability.

Academic Intake & TABE Assessment

All participants begin with a comprehensive academic intake, including administration of the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) or an equivalent assessment.

The TABE is used to:

  • Measure current skill levels in reading, math, and language

  • Identify academic gaps and instructional needs

  • Establish a baseline for measurable progress

  • Inform individualized education plans and realistic GED timelines

Assessment results are reviewed collaboratively with each participant to ensure transparency, shared understanding, and ownership of educational goals.

GED-Focused Instruction & Academic Stabilization

Instruction is GED-specific and outcomes-driven, aligned to the four GED subject areas:

  • Mathematical Reasoning

  • Reasoning Through Language Arts

  • Science

  • Social Studies

Educational services emphasize:

  • Skill-level remediation based on TABE results

  • Small-group and individualized instruction

  • Practice testing and test-taking strategies

  • Functional literacy and numeracy tied to workplace expectations

  • Ongoing progress monitoring and academic accountability

Participants are supported until academic stabilization is achieved, ensuring readiness for GED testing and successful transition into workforce services.

GED Testing & Completion Support

Participants receive structured support throughout the GED testing process, including:

  • Readiness verification prior to exam scheduling

  • Assistance with registration and documentation

  • Guidance on testing accommodations, when applicable

  • Post-test review and encouragement following each exam attempt

GED completion is recognized as a major program milestone and formally documented as part of the participant’s advancement plan.

Post-Secondary Counseling & Next-Step Planning

In addition to GED attainment, participants receive post-secondary counseling to support informed decision-making and long-term planning. Counseling ensures participants do not exit the program without a clear and realistic pathway forward.

Post-secondary counseling may include:

  • Career exploration aligned with interests and strengths

  • Guidance on workforce credential programs, apprenticeships, and vocational training

  • Referrals to community colleges, technical schools, or adult education partners

  • Support navigating enrollment requirements, eligibility criteria, and financial considerations

This component bridges education and employment, reinforcing that the GED is a launch point, not the end goal.

Program Outcomes & Measurable Impact

The Education & GED Preparation program is designed to deliver measurable outcomes aligned with workforce and adult education funding priorities, including:

  • Demonstrated academic gains as measured by TABE

  • Successful GED attainment or documented GED readiness

  • Improved literacy and numeracy relevant to employment

  • Completion of post-secondary counseling and pathway planning

  • Successful transition into job readiness training, workforce credentials, or employment services

Program Impact Statement

By stabilizing academic foundations, supporting GED completion, and integrating post-secondary counseling, this program ensures participants move beyond remediation into purposeful progression—connecting education, workforce readiness, and sustainable economic opportunity.
